Teen Girl Dies After Car Plunges Into Riverbed in Kitakyushu

A light vehicle carrying five teenagers veered off a prefectural road and plunged into a riverbed late on January 26 in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu, leaving one girl dead and four others injured. Police and fire officials said the accident occurred shortly before midnight in the Kusubashi area. The car, which was carrying more passengers than its capacity, left the left side of a straight, one-lane road, went down an embankment, and overturned on the riverbed. A teenage girl believed to have been seated in the rear suffered severe chest injuries and was taken to hospital unconscious, where she died about two and a half hours later. The other four occupants were conscious and sustained minor injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Source: NHK News / KBC News
