System JD of Fukuoka City has developed a device for easily detecting faults in individual solar panels when they are used in combination with many panels in megasolar plants. The company says it eliminates the need to climb up on a roof and move among all the large panels. The device costs 850,000 yen each, but at 700 grams it’s light enough for anyone to carry, and a defective panel can be detected in about 10 seconds. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun
