The damage caused by the heavy rains in northern Kyushu, including to roads, rivers, and agricultural products, has climbed to 124.4 billion yen in Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Oita prefectures, it was learned. About half of the damage, or roughly 61.2 billion yen, was to roads and other public infrastructure. The Cabinet Office said the damage was roughly equivalent to that caused by the heavy rains of 2006.
