Decline in Kyushu’s Child Population Accelerates

According to the results of the 2005 national census, the population of Kyushu fell 0.7% from the previous census in 2000 to 13,353,000 people. It was the first decline in regional population in 35 years. The people born during the second postwar baby boom in the early 70s are now in their late 30s. Combined with the low birthrate, the number of people in the child-rearing group will continue to fall in the future.
