The Jikei Hospital in Kumamoto City, which operates a service that allows parents to anonymously deliver their unwanted babies to allow the hospital to find families to care for them, announced they received 15 babies in 2009, the lowest annual amount since their service began. They received 25 in 2008 and 17 in 2007. Kumamoto City also announced some of the information they had gleaned about the parents. Of those for which the information is known, 31 of the infants came from outside Kyushu, while 14 were from Kyushu.
