Efforts Mounting to Recycle Raw Garbage in Kyushu

The Kyushu Foods Recycling Cooperative was established this month in Kitakyushu by eight companies in the food products industry to recycle food product waste as feed for hogs throughout the region. The cooperative claims it will “kill three birds with one stone” by reducing waste disposal costs, effectively reusing resources that would have been incinerated, and boost the image of the participating companies. The Ministry of the Environment says this is the first enterprise of its type in Japan to handle all operations from selling the feed to the hogs and producing the meat and meat products to recycling the waste.
