The Huis ten Bosch resort facility in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, announced the number of paying customers in 2008 fell 9% from the previous year to 2.2 million people. It was the first year-on-year decline in three years. The drop was attributed to the depreciation of the South Korean won, which resulted in fewer Korean tourists, and higher gasoline prices.
