NTT DoCoMo’s Kyushu branch announced that as of the end of August, they had more than 5 million contracts for FOMA, their third-generation cellular telephone, in the Kyushu/Okinawa service area. The service was first offered throughout the region in October 2004. The FOMA phone service has nearly supplanted the second generation mova phone, as 84% of the company’s contracts at the end of July are for the new type.
