Former Karate School Head Sentenced to 24 Years for Sexual Assault

The Kokura branch of the Fukuoka District Court sentenced a former karate school operator in Kitakyushu to 24 years in prison on February 26 for sexually assaulting eight female students under the age of 13. According to the indictment and court findings, the defendant committed 32 acts of non-consensual sexual intercourse and related offenses, including filming sexual acts, between 2018 and 2024 at his dojo and other locations. Prosecutors had sought a 30-year prison term, the maximum for a fixed-term sentence. The presiding judge determined that the defendant exploited the victims’ desire to improve in their training and described the crimes as particularly malicious, stating that the criminal responsibility was extremely serious.
