The city announced on December 12 that it would accept a male and three female Asian elephants as part of a collaborative research project with the country of Myanmar. As international trade of elephant is strictly regulated by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, Fukuoka City has launched a co-study project of breeding and preservation of the species and will provide medical equipment as well as other technical support to Myanmar. An official agreement will be made on December 18. Source: RKB News
