Be Prepared for Floods!
This year, El Niño and seasonal typhoons are expected to bring heavy rains to Japan from July to August, so everyone will need to exercise caution. Be sure to check TV or radio news for weather advisories and warnings and be ready to evacuate if need be. You can also sign up to receive the latest weather and evacuation information from City Hall. Send a blank e-mail to entry@fukuoka-city.jp to register. Rider Safety Courses for Errant Cyclists Commence
As of June 1, cyclists who commit 14 different violations, including failure to stop at stop signs and riding while intoxicated, two or more times within three years must now take a rider safety course (3 hrs. / ¥5,700). Riders (aged 14 and older) who fail to take the course can be fined up to ¥50,000. Inquiries: Civic Safety Section (092-711-4061)

Social Security and Tax Number System to Commence in October
The Social Security and Tax Number is an ID number that will be assigned to everyone who possesses a certificate of residence. It will be used to efficiently manage data in the fields of social insurance, taxes and disaster response and will enable the confirmation of whether personal information held by multiple agencies refers to the same individual. Starting this October, the City will issue notification cards with your 12-digit ID number to the address listed on your certificate of residence. Inquiries: 0570-20-0291 (in English, Chinese, Korean or Spanish; Weekdays 9:30~17:30)

National Child Consultation Hotline “189” Begins 7/1
If you suspect child abuse, now you can dial “189” to connect to the nearest Child Consultation Center. If you are worried about a child in the neighborhood or have noticed someone who is having trouble raising children, do not hesitate to call the national hotline. Your personal information and the details of your call will be kept confidential. Help us help those in need. Inquiries: Family Welfare Section (092-711-4238)

Fukuoka NEXT Project
What are you doing to achieve your dreams? Under the Fukuoka NEXT Project, the City is offering prizes for the initiatives it showcases on its website and in Shisei Dayori. Applications are open to all citizens, community groups and local companies. Now Accepting Applications for Marathon Supporters
Applications are now being accepted for roadside performers who want to cheer on the 10,000 runners in Fukuoka Marathon 2015 on Nov. 8 (Sun). Each performance may last up to 20 minutes. Both group and individual applications are acceptable. Download an application from www.f-marathon.jp and e-mail the completed form to event@f-marathon.jp to apply.
