Fukuoka Governor Cautions Against Hastily Advancing Ride-Sharing Discussions

Following the launch of a ride-sharing service in Tokyo, overseen by taxi companies, Fukuoka Governor Hattori has urged the government not to rush discussions on the matter. He emphasized the importance of ensuring passenger safety and protecting the taxi industry. The service allows private drivers to offer rides for a fee in areas with taxi shortages, under the management of taxi companies. It has started in Tokyo and is also approved for Fukuoka city. Governor Hattori stressed the need for carefully listening to the opinions of businesses, local residents, and local governments to safeguard user safety and the interests of taxi operators. Additionally, he mentioned the importance of preparing for the reception of residents from the Okinawa Prefecture’s remote islands in Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture in case of emergencies, highlighting the need for a system that accommodates individual needs in education and healthcare.
