On Feb. 26, Fukuoka City released the course for Fukuoka Marathon 2014, a new citizen’s marathon to be held in November. Sponsored by Fukuoka City, Itoshima City and the Fukuoka Amateur Athletic Association (with support from Nishinippon Shimbun), the full marathon will begin in Tenjin at Fukuoka City Hall and pass by Yafuoku Dome and Fukuoka Tower before heading into the Itoshima Peninsula, eventually finishing at the Shima Branch Office of Itoshima City Hall. The organizers aim to attract 12,020 runners, including 2,000 for the 5km fun run and 20 for the 5km wheelchair race. To assist with race operations, the organizers plan to recruit 3,000 volunteers. Applications will open in mid-April, and efforts will be made to solicit groups of volunteers from schools and companies as well as individual volunteers.
