Fukuoka Mayor Takashima Joins 21-City Alliance Joins 21-City Alliance

Fukuoka City and 20 other mayors from across Japan have established a “Union of City and Town Mayors” to discuss local challenges such as population decline and declining birthrates in support of the “Reiwa Research Council” aimed at building a post-COVID society. The “Reiwa National Conference,” also known as the “Reiwa Research Council,” was launched in June last year with the participation of experts from various fields. The council provides a wide range of proposals on economic, social, and political issues, not just in politics. The “Union of City and Town Mayors” will exchange views on themes such as the way local administration should be conducted to maintain resident welfare in the face of population decline, efforts to promote women’s participation in economic and political fields, and measures to reduce the burden of school lunch fees and childcare fees uniformly throughout the country as part of efforts to address declining birthrates.
