Fukuoka Office Vacancy Rates Decline Amidst Construction Boom

The Hakata FD Business Center, located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, which was completed in February, saw a decrease in office vacancy rates for the second consecutive month in May 2023, according to a report from leading office brokerage firm Miki Shoji. The rate dropped by 0.06 percentage points from the previous month, reaching 5.75%, due to factors such as building replacements and relocations that reduced vacant space. Despite this, the rate exceeded the 5% threshold, an indicator of oversupply, for the fourth consecutive month. In Fukuoka City, there’s an ongoing boom in office building construction driven by redevelopment. The 12-story Hakata FD Business Center was completed in February in the Gofukumachi area, roughly a kilometer northwest from Hakata Station. In April, the 25-story Fukuoka Daimyo Garden City Tower opened its doors in the Tenjin area to the west. Source: Miki Shoji / Nikkei
