Fukuoka has taken a bold step towards sustainable transportation with the introduction of a hydrogen-powered fuel cell bus for the “BRT Hikoboshi Line.” Launched in August, this line is a transformative initiative, replacing a portion of the JR Hita-Hikosan Line with a bus service. Covering a 40-kilometer stretch between Soeda Station in Fukuoka and Hita Station in Oita, the line was adapted to a Bus Rapid Transit system after the damaging Kyushu Northern Heavy Rain six years ago. The new bus, notable for its quiet, smooth operation, and distinct blue color, can accommodate 14 passengers. Scheduled to commence operations on November 28, the bus will run three days a week until early spring of the following year. Governor Hattori underscored the importance of this project, symbolizing a significant leap towards a hydrogen-based society. Source: JR Kyushu / NHK
