Fukuoka City will build a display facility to preserve and present remains of the Genko Borui stone defensive wall discovered at the former Kyushu University Hakozaki Campus site in Higashi Ward, Mayor Soichiro Takashima said on Jan. 7. The Genko Borui is believed to have been constructed in the Kamakura period to prepare for invasions by the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty, stretching more than 20 kilometers. A section found during redevelopment of the Hakozaki site was designated a national historic site in 2020. Takashima said the city aims to develop a facility at a well-preserved area so visitors can learn about the wall’s role and history. The site is undergoing large-scale redevelopment, and the city said it will consult experts on the facility’s design and how it should fit into the broader project. Source: KBC News
