Fukuoka Prefecture now encourages the use of COCOA; a contact-tracing application developed to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The smartphone application uses Bluetooth signals and records close contact with others while protecting privacy. Users receive app notifications when one of those who came into close contact in the past 14 days change their status as “tested positive.” The system was developed by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, collaborating with a technology-task team. The software can be downloaded from here. Sources: Fukuoka Prefecture / MHLW
