Fukuoka City’s 4000-series subway train has been awarded the 2025 Laurel Prize by the Japan Railfan Club, recognizing its excellence in design and functionality. Introduced in November 2024 on the Airport and Hakozaki lines, the train incorporates user-friendly features including free spaces for wheelchairs, strollers, and travelers with large luggage.
The design also enhances comfort with wider seating arrangements and increased use of glass for a brighter interior. The blue accents continue the Airport Line’s design tradition. The train’s thoughtful design earned high marks from rail enthusiasts, and Fukuoka City officials expressed hope it will become widely embraced by the public. Source: Fukuoka City Subway
