Fukuoka to Link Islands with Video Consultations

Fukuoka City has announced plans to introduce “remote windows,” which will link community centers on remote islands and ward offices via video calls, allowing citizens to consult on administrative matters.

Mayor Soichiro Takashima of Fukuoka City announced in a regular press conference on the 3rd that these remote windows would be implemented in areas distant from ward offices, including community centers and branch offices on remote islands. This system enables ward office staff to respond to inquiries about administrative services via video calls, making it accessible even for those who may struggle with digital technology. Fukuoka City had conducted a demonstration experiment in 2022. The remote windows, allowing face-to-face conversation, will be rolled out in places like Koroshima and Goto Islands and a total of 13 community centers and branch offices starting from November 2023.
