As previously announced here on the Fukuoka Now website, Fukuoka City is planning a ballistic missile response drill on Dec. 1. In addition to the sounding of alarms, subway trains inside Fukuoka City running on the Airport, Hakozaki, and Nanakuma lines will temporarily stop, as well as trains on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta, and Nishitetsu Kaizuka lines. Approximately 20 trains will come to a stop at the closest train station after the initial emergency message is sent at 10:00. Usual service will resume after all systems have been checked. JR Kyushu also has a set of provisions put in place to deal with J Alerts (the nationwide instantaneous alert system). In keeping with their safety measures, all trains running on standard lines will come to a stop once the driver has received a message on their work phone. The trains will resume operation once it is confirmed that the communication was part of the training drill. Please keep in mind that the emergency alarm will be delivered to all compatible (Docomo, AU, SoftBank, and Y! Mobile) phones. The exercise is designed to test the mail delivery service. There is no need to carry out evacuation procedures or any other special measures. Source: NHK, 11/27
