The venue for the Fukuoka World Aquatics Championships, which is due to commence on July 14th, has been unveiled to the media. The venue, located at Marine Messe Fukuoka in Fukuoka City’s Hakata Ward, features two pools designated for the World Aquatics Championships and the World Aquatics Masters Championships. The main pool in Hall A, which is 50 meters long, 16 meters wide, and 3 meters deep, will be utilized for competitive and artistic swimming. With a capacity of about 4,000 tons, it took three days to fill the pool with water.
A second pool in Hall B is 35 meters long, 25 meters wide, and 2 meters deep. This pool, with a water capacity of roughly 1,800 tons, will be the venue for water polo matches.
The venue also includes three warm-up pools for athletes to use before their matches, which have been repurposed from those used in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. After the championships, these subsidiary pools will be disassembled and the materials will be reused to create permanent pools at four local elementary schools in the city.
Seaside Momochi Beach Park in Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City, will serve as the venue for open water swimming and high diving events. The park features a diving platform equivalent to the height of a 9-story building. The platform heights are designated at 20 meters for women and 27 meters for men.
The World Aquatics Championships, spanning from the 14th to the 30th of this month, will feature 6 categories with 75 events including competitive swimming and water polo. The subsequent World Masters Swimming Championships will be held from the 2nd to the 11th of next month. Overall, around 2,400 participants from approximately 200 countries and regions are expected to attend these events.
