Fukuoka City has entered a bid to serve as a regional host during the G20 summit in 2019, which will be held in Japan for the first time. Proposals for the Hilton Fukuoka Seahawk to serve as a meeting venue were originally put forward, with cruise ships moored in the Port of Hakata to provide accommodation. However, security concerns have led planners to seek onshore alternatives. The city is now considering the possibility of using luxury hotels around the city. Local officials plan to visit Mie Prefecture to learn more about the preparations that went into hosting the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in 2016. Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, and Aichi Prefecture have also bid to host the G20 summit. Mayor Soichiro Takashima entered Fukuoka City into the race at the beginning of December. The Japanese government will decide on the G20 summit venue early this year. Source: Sankei News, 12/21/2017
