Fukuoka’s Nishitetsu Targets Global Tourists

Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu) opened the “Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Taipei Ximen,” its fourth international hotel, in Taipei’s Ximen district on August 1st. Standing at 120 meters with 28 floors, it has 298 guest rooms of 14 different types. Taipei was selected following expansions in Seoul, Busan, and Bangkok due to its popularity among Japanese tourists, attracting about 70% of the 2 million Japanese visitors before the pandemic. Previous Nishitetsu hotels saw occupancy rates below 10% at the pandemic’s height, but lessons learned are being applied in Taipei. The new hotel targets not just Japanese tourists but other international guests, with facilities like a fitness gym and an extensive business center. The rooms are priced at around 20,000 yen per night. Increasing brand recognition and customer trust are Nishitetsu’s key goals in its post-pandemic global expansion.
