Saga Prefecture Gov. Yasushi Furukawa addressed the controversy regarding a memo taken during a meeting between him and officials of Kyushu Electric Power that suggested he encourage e-mails be sent to prefectural council members calling for the restart of the nuclear power plant at Genkai-cho. Kyushu Electric has been criticized for what has been charged are e-mails sent by the utility’s employees under the pretense of being written by ordinary citizens. The memo, which was revealed in the weekly magazine Aera, appears to suggest that the governor encouraged the e-mails. Gov. Furukawa admitted that the general topic of discussion was as discussed in the memo, but the content and the nuance of his statements are incorrect.
