Guide to Contributing Items and Money to Disaster Areas in Kyushu

Fukuoka City is collecting donations for items for use by people in torrential rain-hit areas. A drive-through donation venue is set up at Tsukiguma Shuzo-ko (near Fukuoka Airport) to gather five items(*); disposable masks, towels, wet towels/sanitizing wipes, body wipes, and nutritional jelly drinks. Non-drivers can also bring them to the City Hall. Contributed items will be sent to cities of Omuta, Kurume, and other disaster-hit areas in Kyushu. (*Un-opened items only. Other things are not accepted.)

UPDATE (July 11, 2020)

Fukuoka City updated its guidelines for donation-item collections linked to the recent torrential rain in Kyushu. As of July 13, it accepts six items; work gloves, brown packing tape (paper tapes/ cloth tapes), transparent trash bag (40-litter size or larger), wet towels/sanitizing wipes (box-packed), body wipes, and nutritional jelly drinks. *Un-opened items only. Also, other things, including masks, are not accepted.

For non-drivers:

Also, elven donation boxes have been set up inside Fukuoka City Hall and Ward Offices. Those are available every day between 9:00~18:00 at City Hall, and on weekdays between 9:00~17:30 at Ward Offices. In the meantime, Fukuoka City Mayor, Soichiro Takashima, urges people not to rush to rain-hit regions to engage in volunteer activities. As the potential for the spread of novel coronavirus remains an issue, local governments are adopting extra-cautious measures, including nonacceptance of disaster volunteers from other prefectures.

Disaster-hit areas including Kumamoto Prefecture are also accepting contributions. To donate to Kumamoto Prefecture, visit donation boxes at fourteen locations including the prefectural office (3F) and the Kumamoto prefecture offices in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka (weekdays 8:30~17:00)
