Hakata and Kitakyushu Chosen for Defense and Coast Guard Training Hubs

The Japanese government has designated Hakata Port and Kitakyushu Airport as “Specific Use Ports and Airports” to facilitate smooth operations for the Self-Defense Forces and the Japan Coast Guard, aiming to strengthen national defense capabilities. This move is part of a broader policy to designate various airports and ports across the country, ensuring they are equipped to support the activities of the Self-Defense Forces and the Japan Coast Guard in times of emergency. The designated locations also include Naha Airport, Miyazaki Airport, Nagasaki Airport, Fukue Airport, and eleven ports across Kyushu, Okinawa, Shikoku, and Hokkaido. While maintaining civilian use as the primary function, the government plans to extend runways and expand docks as necessary. Source: NHK
