Next year will mark the 777th anniversary of Hakata-ori, a traditional textile that has become almost synonymous with the local area. The Hakata-ori Industry Association announced on Oct. 31 that a commemorative logo has been completed to celebrate the event, which will be used on their website, posters, fliers, and general promotional purposes. The general public was invited to submit ideas for the new symbol, and applications were sent from both inside and outside of the prefecture. The selected design was submitted by a graphic designer based in Fukuoka City and consists of the number 777 in a vertical arrangement, as well as the kind of striped patterns that usually feature in Hakata-ori designs.
