Happy Ending – Cut Wisteria Flowers Now Ready for Eating

Wisteria flowers from the famous Kurogi no Ofuji tree have been repurposed into stay-home delights. In late April, news of the cutting of flowers from huge wisteria trees in Yame City created disappointments amongst citizens. They were cut to discourage visitors from outside the area, and thereby reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19. However, one local soy brewery company was quick to act. Marumasa Shoyu Soy Sauce Brewery collected the still-fresh flowers and preserved them in sugar syrup. Four-hundred bottles will be on sale at the Iwataya Department store in Tenjin (Jun. 2 & 3) and from the company’s official web store (¥480/bottle, incl. tax.) Profits will be donated to Yame City for the management of wisteria trees and anti-coronavirus projects. Source: Marumasa
