Hong Kong Loves Kyushu’s Cream

Omuta-based Omu Milk Products’ fresh cream is gaining popularity with high-end shops in Hong Kong. With an eye on long-term demographic trends in Japan, Omu began exporting fresh cream to Hong Kong via Fukuoka Airport last October. Fukusho Trading, a Hong Kong-based importer specializing in fresh foods from Kyushu, became the first importer licensed to handle fresh cream. Omu’s cream is made from fresh milk, instead of longer lasting ultra-heat treated milk, so it does not last as long and costs about three times more, but orders are up among high-end restaurants and patisseries in search of authentic-tasting cream. Hong Kong is the second region Omu has entered after starting fresh cream exports to Taiwan in 2011. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 3/6
