Business sentiment in Kyushu and Okinawa worsened for a second consecutive quarter in the Bank of Japan’s survey released on Oct. 1. The all-industry index fell four points to plus 17, based on responses from more than 1,000 companies. The hotel and restaurant sector recorded a 25-point deterioration. Higher prices, staff shortages and cancellations following the Kumamoto earthquake contributed to the decline. Looking three months ahead, respondents expected the all-industry index to improve by three points and the hotel and restaurant measure by 19. Source: NHK News / Nikkei
