Influenza Cases in Fukuoka Exceed 4,000 as Spread Accelerates

Influenza cases in Fukuoka Prefecture have surpassed 4,000, marking a significant surge. The prefecture recorded 4,019 cases from December 2 to 8, a 1.78-fold increase compared to the previous week. The average number of cases per medical institution rose to 20.30. Among local health districts, Chikushi topped the list with 34.31 cases per institution, followed by Kitakyushu with 32.29 and Itoshima with 23.17.

To curb further spread, Fukuoka has reissued its influenza advisory, urging residents to practice hand hygiene, wear masks, and avoid crowded areas. Authorities anticipate a broader outbreak and recommend preventive measures to protect public health.

Additionally, hand, foot, and mouth disease remains a concern, averaging 2.92 cases per medical institution. For 26 consecutive weeks, the prefecture has advised avoiding shared towels and ensuring proper disposal of diapers to reduce infections. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
