The Fukuoka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that on March 21 the flowers of the Somei Yoshino tree, one of the most popular varieties of sakura, came into bloom. While the news of sakura blooming has been recorded in four other areas of Japan, it was the first such announcement in Kyushu. The flowers are expected to peak within the next week to ten days.
