Jego Trip: Tackling Over-Tourism and Under-Exposure in Kyushu

Seiko Service & Engineering, a subsidiary of Seiko Electric Manufacturing, has begun integrating Japanese tourism and transportation data into the ‘MaaS’ app, Jego Trip, a popular mobility service among Chinese tourists. While the app already has about 60 million users, there is currently limited information about Japan. Seiko aims to use the app to highlight less known regions in Japan, such as Saga Prefecture with its rich ceramic culture, and manage the over-tourism in popular sites. The company also confirmed that there’s no security risk for businesses participating as they won’t handle personal data. The move comes as Chinese tourism in Japan recovers post-pandemic, with an eight-fold increase in visitors in May 2023 compared to the previous year. Source: Nikkei / Jego Trip
