Six months after the opening of the JR Hakata City shopping complex at the JR Hakata Station, statistics indicate they are drawing customers away from the Tenjin area, Kyushu’s largest shopping district. Though the facility itself is more successful than anticipated, it is not having the impact on the neighborhood that was hoped. Nevertheless, there are concerns that the retail industry will continue to open or expand facilities, leading to more companies fighting over slices of the same size pie.
