The company, which operated an additional 450 shinkansen trains and 1,061 express trains between July to September in 2019, plans no such operations this year for the first time since 1999. As the nationwide shift to a “new lifestyle” expects a reduced number of travelers during the upcoming summer vacation, the company points out the unlikeliness of crowds even without adding the extra summer trains.
