JR Kyushu Counters Discount Highway Tolls

To counter lost revenue from the 1,000 yen discount highway tolls on holidays, JR Kyushu launched a campaign from the 28th in which people who show their automated toll collection cards (ETC) can purchase discount rail tickets and receive a presents. The railway is offering the deal in conjunction with consumer electronics mass merchandiser Biccamera of Tokyo, and it will run until August 5. JR Kyushu’s revenue during the April-June quarter when the discount tolls were in effect was 6% lower than two years ago, when the tolls were instituted.
