Jr Kyushu Express “Kawasemi Yamasemi”

On March 4, JR Kyushu launched a new limited express train called Kawasemi Yamasemi, named after two varieties of birds (Kingfishers) found in the Hitoyoshi Kuma area of Kumamoto. The newly designed train offers passengers a sense of how the birds traverse the river path between the mountains. Much of the carriage’s interior is made from cypress and cedar wood taken from the Hitoyoshi and Kuma region. The carriages have reclining seats, box seats, and counter seats facing the windows. A buffet area offers light meals and there is an observation window for passengers to enjoy the unspoiled tranquility of the Japanese landscape. This will be JR Kyushu’s 11th Design and Story train and its route will include the Kuma River, Hitoyoshi Hot Springs, as well as other historical sites in the area. One-way tickets for reserved seats from Kumamoto to Hitoyoshi stations are ¥3,270. Source: JR Kyushu, 2/28
