JR Kyushu has disclosed that a malfunction in IC ticket processing machines along the Kagoshima Main Line has led to passengers being overcharged by approximately 29,000 yen in total across 97 instances over the past four years. The affected machines, numbering 35 across 34 stations including Hakata and Kurume, have been overcharging adults by 300 yen and children by 150 yen per ticket. JR Kyushu is addressing the issue by posting notifications at affected stations and offering refunds to passengers who come forward with claims, after verifying their IC card numbers. Source: NHK
