JR Kyushu has teamed up with drone manufacturers ALI Technologies to create devices that can be used to check railway assets. The two companies plan to inspect facilities using drones to improve efficiency, ensure workers’ safety, and respond to labor shortages in the industry. They are working on developing a method to analyze images taken by cameras attached to unmanned aerial vehicles that will help examine tracks, bridges, and identify trees that have fallen in the vicinity of train lines. The aim is to introduce the drones within the next few years. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 7/17/2019
