On Jan. 27, JR Kyushu announced the launch of its tenth scenic train, dubbed the “Sweets Train”, to run in Nagasaki and Oita prefectures in 2015. The new train is targeted towards young women and housewives (but we think it appeals to anyone with a sweet tooth!), aiming to create a luxurious atmosphere for passengers with the service of exquisite Western and Japanese sweets on board. Passengers can enjoy a variety of desserts and sweets created by a top patissier, who is also responsible for the sweets served on the luxurious sleeper train “Nanatsuboshi in Kyushu. The patissier is also joined by a team of Japanese confectionery craftsmen from local areas. Although unconfirmed, there are two main routes planned for the service: the Kyudai Main Line connecting Fukuoka and Oita prefectures, and the Omura Line in Nagasaki Prefecture. Industrial designer Eiji Mitooka, who worked on the “Nanatsuboshi in Kyushu”, will be a design consultant for the two-carriage train. More details to be confirmed and released by this summer.
