Kashii Kaen Slated for Makeover

Kashii Kaen, the theme park in Higashi Ward operated by Nishi-nippon Railroad Co., is slated to undergo an overhaul. Work will begin this fall and is slated for completion next spring. Big ticket renovations will include a bigger Ferris wheel and a park golf course aimed at senior citizens. Nishitetsu is also looking at redesigning the placement of existing attractions and flow lines to improve the circulation of parkgoers. It also hopes to attract more of the tourists who come to Hakata by cruise ship. Kashii Kaen first opened in 1938, but visitors numbers have been on the decline since peaking in 1986. The renovations are expected to cost around ¥1 billion. Source: NHK News Web, 5/31
