Fumiharu Uchiyama, the president of Uchiyama Holdings of Kitakyushu, has been raising funds nationwide to build a primary school in Laos. His fund raising activity, which has been conducted at sites that include eating and drinking establishments, karaoke shops, and homes for the elderly, netted roughly 3.40 million yen in contributions. Work on the school in a Laotian village near the border with Cambodia and Thailand will begin in October. The village’s current school is more than 40 years old and unsafe.
