Kitakyushu Places Second Among Japan’s Sustainable Cities

In its nationwide survey of 815 municipalities, Nikkei Shimbun ranked Kitakyushu second in terms of sustainability and promoting the OECD’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). It praised the city’s efforts to encourage the export of environmental technologies in conjunction with locally based companies. Kitakyushu has been undertaking initiatives aimed at achieving the SDGs, and the survey highly rated the city, which the national government has designated an SDGs Future City, as a “model among world cities for achieving the SDGs.” Source: fiba.jp
