Kitakyushu to Outsource Nine Functions
Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi told a press conference that the city would accept the recommendations of a special commission and outsource nine municipal functions to the private sector, including garbage collection and the preparation of school lunches. This is expected to eliminate 460 jobs in the future. Of the nation’s special ordinance cities, only Fukuoka City, Chiba City, and Sendai completely outsource garbage collection.
