Kitakyushu Urges Residents to Stock Emergency Toilets

Kitakyushu City has unveiled a disaster preparedness plan urging residents to stock at least three days’ worth of portable toilets in case of a large-scale emergency. The initiative follows lessons learned from the Noto Peninsula earthquake, where prolonged disruptions affected sanitation infrastructure.

The city also aims to raise public awareness of proper usage and maintenance of emergency toilets. In parallel, authorities have stockpiled 66,000 portable toilet sets and 440 temporary units, enough to support 22,000 evacuees for three days. The plan emphasizes shared responsibility between government and citizens in disaster response efforts. Source: NHK
