Fukuoka City will begin restoring the historic Kōrokan guesthouse site this summer, aiming to complete construction by FY2027. Located in Chūō Ward, the ancient site hosted foreign envoys during the Asuka to Heian periods and is Japan’s only confirmed Kōrokan ruin. The project will reconstruct the eastern gate and surrounding walls, with over ¥570 million allocated this fiscal year for groundwork. The restored area will also serve as a venue for local events. Originally discovered in 1987 during stadium renovations, the site has been designated a national historic landmark. Source: Fukuoka City / NHK
