Special Kumamoto number plates that include a silhouette of Kumamon in the design have proven popular with the public. At the beginning of October, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism began issuing a range of 41 regionally specific vehicle registration plates featuring an array of local attractions. A total of 1,329 orders were placed for the Kumamon-inspired design by 10 am on October 1. This means that only the Hiroshima Carp-themed Fukuyama plate, which received 2,532 orders, garnered more interest. Source: Kumamoto Mainichi Shimbun, 10/2/2018
