Kumamoto Hospital First to Issue Birth Certificate Without Mother’s Name

Jikei Hospital in Kumamoto City is preparing to offer Japan’s first confidential-birth certificate. A teen mother who faced a situation where she couldn’t talk about her pregnancy to her family decided to be the first individual without including her name in the certificate. She hopes to have her baby adopted by appropriate parents and disclose her identity only after he or she turns 18 ~ 20 years old. Jikei Hospital is working to find out how they can help and deal with current matters and similar situations in the future. Source: Asahi
