Kumamoto City released details of a redevelopment plan that calls for the construction of a 123-meter high building near the JR Kumamoto Station to coincide with the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen line. It will be the tallest building in the prefecture. The station area is said to lack a landmark facility of the kind near the JR Hakata Station and the JR Kagoshima Central Station, and the building is expected to create a new look for the district.
